Terry Pratchett's celebrated coven of witches get meddling in royal politics in a plot not unlike Macbeth (but not exactly like it either) … with maybe a bit of Hamlet thrown in , jumped on, squished and turned upsidedown. Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick attempt to usurp the wicked Duke and Duchess from the throne of Lancre and reinstate a rightful (well, almost rightful) heir and save a Kingdom in peril. Also starring the ghost of the murdered king, a band of strolling players, a Fool, a demon, lots of soldiers and many other wonderful Pratchett cameos!

The Reviews

NODA Review January 2010
Bethan Clement, Joanna Handley and Mary Ann Wall were well cast as the Wyrd Sisters. Alex Cofield and Alys Wood as Duke and Lady Felmet, not only acted the part but looked it as well. Barbara Hockley’s interpretation of Terry Pratchet play was an absolute indulgence in fun. The cast obviously enjoyed themselves immensely. The set was superb and the costumes were fabulous. As there was such a large cast it would be unfair to mention all of the outstanding performances but, needless to say, Bromyard is very fortunate to have a strong youth group with very talented members.

Off The Record Review, February 2010
What a splendid pre-Christmas treat we had when we saw the Conquest Youth Theatre’s performance of Terry Pratchett’s ‘Wyrd Sisters’. There was a great atmosphere created by the performers and the enthusiastic audience, and super costumes and scenery – and everyone was in the right sort of mood for a brilliant night out.

I am always impressed by the Conquest Youth Theatre, and this performance was no exception. They are well rehearsed, confident and professional in their approach. In fact, I defy anyone who was there to not have imagined they were watching professional, paid actors. I could hear everything, the timing and delivery of some very funny lines was immaculate and, readers will know this is one of my hobbyhorses; they looked as if they were enjoying the experience too.

It was good to see some regulars from past performances – and a delight to see how much they and their skills have developed over the last few years. Alex Cofield (Duke Felmet), Liam Stobart (the Fool), Joanna Handley (Granny Weatherwax) and Josh Herriott (the late King Verence) – fit into this category and should all be congratulated on an excellent performance and the way they have matured into their roles. Members of the Youth Theatre I haven’t seen before (and I apologise if I’ve missed something vital in the past) – that deserve special mention, as they too were stunning are Bethan Clement (Magrat Garlick), Mary Ann Wall (Nanny Ogg) and Alys Wood (Lady Felmet). In fact – all members of the cast were vital to the success of play and instrumental in making it such a good evening.

It would be impossible to write about the Youth Theatre without congratulating Barbara Hockley and commending her for all her exceptional hard-work and talent in getting these young people to such a high standard. We look forward to more!
