By Bernard Shaw
A country governed by religious extremists engaged in a futile struggle to rid itself of an occupying power. A military stalemate. From out of the provinces comes a girl who can liberate her nation and overthrow the invaders. But at what cost to the establishment? The Conquest's November production will be Bernard Shaw's St Joan, a mediaeval story with uncanny modern resonances.
Reduced Shaw Company?
Shaw's play has over twenty male characters. The Conquest company bring the play to life with just six actors apart from Joan herself, making a virtue of necessity as the cast change character by donning new costumes in full view of the audience.
