FILM: Memoirs of a Geisha
The story of a young girl, Chiyo, from a poor fishing village sold to a Geisha house in Kyoto in 1929. Subjected to cruel treatment by her owners and head geisha her life is made miserable and hard. Eventually she is taken under the wing of another geisha of great renown and is taught the important practices of the geisha way of life. As World War II approaches this way of life, as with many other aspects of Japanese traditional life, is under threat. A brilliant adaptation of the best selling novel by Arthur Golden.
